FRISKYRADIO LOVES HOLLAND

|

29 OCTOBER 2011 @ 06AM PST / 09AM New York / 03PM Amsterdam
[Calculate time where you are]

The Concept: Pick a region, usually a country, and showcase its electronic dance music to the world. The hand-picked DJs from the friskyRadio robots are sure to paint a unique picture of whats hot in that part of the world.

The Show: friskyRadio Loves...

The History: It all began with Argentina. Back in 2005, we had an idea: Why not do a show solely on Argentina, where some of the most passionate friskyRadio DJs and fans come from. Indeed, the first friskyRadio Loves Argentina wasnt even called "friskyRadio Loves Argentina," for even we didnt know what a unique concept and show we were pioneering. At the time, there was simply nothing like it anywhere: not on Internet Radio, not in FM radio. Like so many things on friskyRadio - we were the first to bring the 'Country/Region' showcase concept to the world. Since then have visited well over 30 countries or regions, from Russia to Finland, from HOLLAND to Greece and everything in between.

Miss Nine

DJ Miss Nine has been a major presence on the dance scene for quite some years now. With her eclectic taste in music, ranging from energetic grooves with plenty of vocals to a deeper, progressive sound, Miss Nine turns heads and moves feet wherever she performs. Amsterdam Miss Nine was born in Germany as Kristin Schrot and at the age of 16, she started her career – not as a DJ, but as a model. Shortly thereafter, she secured a worldwide contract with Elite Model Management. After moving to Amsterdam, she discovered the art of DJ’ing and her passion for music eventually led her become a DJ as well. In 2003, only a few months after touching the decks for the first time, she became a resident DJ at the legendary Motion parties where she evolved as an artist and DJ while playing alongside masters such as John Digweed, Dave Seaman, Nick Warren, and James Zabiela. 2003 was also the year that Miss Nine took to the decks as the youngest artist at the 10th edition of Dance Valley (renowned Dutch Dance Festival). At the end of 2005, Miss Nine was then asked by Grammy Award winning DJ duo, Deep Dish to join Bullitt Bookings, the reputable agency of A-list DJs. This allowed Miss Nine to enter the forefront of the international DJ scene for the first time.

In 2008, Miss Nine started her own record label called 925 Digital. Having spent so much time in the dance scene, she realized that there were too many excellent progressive-house tracks that didn’t get the release and the attention that they deserved. 925 Digital was created in order to ensure that this didn’t happen and bring progressive house, and the artists behind it, to prominence. Miss Nine performs all around the globe, spinning at clubs such as Privilege in Ibiza, Avalon in Los Angeles, Warung in Brazil, the Ministry of Sound in London and several Pacha’s around the world. She has also graced the main stage of the Ultra

Eelke Kleijn

Ever since his 2003 landing in the world of electronic music, Eelke Kleijn has been a name synchronous with quality. Fans and enthusiasts worldwide have come to love the sympathetic Dutchman for his affectionate sound, unique productions and dynamic DJ sets, which have taken him from Mexico to Russia, and almost everywhere in between. And it’s not just the fans that are moved by his work; avid followers include internationally renowned DJs such as Hernán Cattáneo, Sasha and Dave Seaman, who repeatedly drop his tracks in clubs and festivals around the world. Eelke’s real breakthrough came in 2006 when Nick Warren included ‘8 Bit Era’ on his ‘GU 030: Paris’ compilation. A few months later, Global Underground snapped up his debut artist album ‘Naturally Artificial’, which hit the market late 2007 and received critical acclaim from press and reviewers worldwide. The attention from an international best-selling label also sky rocketed his DJ career, playing at massive events such as Moonpark in Buenos Aires, Dance Valley, Extrema Outdoor and Sensation to club gigs at the world famous Warung in Brazil and Privilege Ibiza. Throughout the years, Eelke’s increasing profile has given him the opportunity to remix numerous well known acts and DJs, including Way Out West, Hybrid, Miss Nine and Sander Kleinenberg. His area of work extends well beyond the borders of conventional dance music however, having written music for clients such as NIKE & Joolz and often being credited as a mixing and mastering engineer for various artists and labels. Besides his work as a DJ and producer, Eelke also successfully runs the record label ‘Outside the Box Music’, launched in 2006. Jaap Ligthart

Jaaps parents failed miserably at one thing, music. Years and years exposed to horrifying (Dutch language) music, poor Jaap discovers electronic music years later... As of then Jaap found his passion. He listened to sets, mix cd's and radio recordings of Tiesto, Carl Cox, Sven Vath, Sasha, John Digweed, everything he could get his hands on. Not much later he started buying vinyl, and this time no vinyl with Dutch music! Nowadays the world is getting to know his music... For example by guestmixes in numerous broadcast on Radio 538 (the number 1 radiostation in The Netherlands), guestmixes in Dennis Ruyers Dance Department (March and June 2011) and Tiesto's Club Life (July 2010). His productions (original tracks, remixes, bootlegs) played lots of times by the world's big time dj's. Artists like Sasha, John Digweed, Tiesto, Dave Seaman and Jody Wisternoff (Way Out West) are playing Jaaps productions over and over again and are dying to play his new stuff every time. The styles/genres that Jaap plays, varies every gig, depending on the gig and crowd. Sometimes he plays very deep with deephouse and minimal, other times he treats the crowd with a more uplifting or raw sounding set. It all depends on the evening...

Nick Hogendoorn

Nick started showing more interest in music than average at around the age of 10. Around this time, a neighbor who was a DJ played some tunes for Nick, mainly hardcore as this was the hot sound in 1993. But Nick decided that he preferred a less harsh sound and started buying more and more CD's and albums ranging from eurodance to trance. A couple of years later, Nick got in touch with a friend who had some old audio equipment in the attic, and they started experimenting with it to make some mixes for the very first time. They both loved it and decided to buy some real tools for the trade. When their first turntables arrived, they started to build their collection of vinyl, which eventually led to experimentation with music production on the very old Trackers for DOS. Time flew by and Nick's tastes changed again, as he became more interested in electro, disco, and deephouse tracks. While working part-time to get some extra cash for vinyl, he met someone at work who shared the same interest in music production, and he taught Nick the basics of music production. This led to Nick getting his very first production signed to Toes In The Sand Recordings, which also signed him to do a remix of Brahma's "Peaks of Destiny." After a while, Nick hooked up with talented producer Eelke Kleijn to collaborate on productions. The partnership has been fruitful, with tracks signed at Ork Recordings, Kindred Sounds, Global Underground, Baroque, and more. Now that Nick graduated he is dedicated to finally unleash his vision of how music should be in a solo career. With tracks already signed at Manual Music, Hyline Music and Per-vurt Records things are surely starting to look up.

16 Bit Lolitas

Ariaan "Aad" Olieroock and Peter Kriek joined forces in 2003. Their initial collaboration quickly producing a tidal wave of releases. Tracks such as The Puppet Show, Destiny, Remixes of My Lexicon, Stereo Control and the epic Sedna quickly followed on all the labels of that time. They then decided to keep control of most of their material starting their successful imprint "Bits and Pieces" shooting off club hit after hit. Peter and Ariaan consistently turn in tight productions that stand out in a crowded market place. Chunk after chunk of electronic music that has been patiently crafted and produced with emotion and care. It's music that creates atmospheres as well as deliver a killer blow without the need of resorting to the overused and obvious. What can we expect on the regular and exclusive show here at Frisky "16 Bits and Pieces"? Yes there'll be the obligatory upfront underground sounds, handpicked from across the globe to add a shimmer but a large proportion of what you will hear be their own unreleased material. Why? Well speak to Ariaan about his dj sets and he'll tell you that they often write material just for it, more than able to nail the mood required in the studio and then put their money where their mouth is at the club. Many djs will play some of their own productions but not whole sets of it. Welcome to the 16 Bit Lolitas.

Miss Melera

Miss Melera has been part of the technoscene for quite some time now. Her modest and quiet character inspires any crowd, especially when she takes up a full dancefloor. She has adjusted her sound more towards a deeper and melodious variant of the traditional '4 to the floor'. During her sets you will quickly find yourself constantly dancing with a smile on your face. At this moment Miss Melera is working hard on her own productions, which will be a blend of deep and melodious dancefloor tracks. Roger Martinez

The most skilled Dj’s always have the ability to sense the anticipation and feelings of their audience. These artists go along and ride the musical palette like a surfer riding the waves of the ocean. It is precisely this skill that Roger Martinez has been praised for numerous times. In combination with his seamless musical mixing technique he, as an upcoming talent, has surprised many with his performances. Although he has been known through the years as a “Progressive DJ”, his sets are living proof that his musical taste reaches much further. Especially in his own productions he tries to go beyond genres and formats. He approaches (dance) music from an emotional perspective and emotions can be hard to label. He explains: ,,Music must contain mystery, harmony and melody. These elements are the key to human emotions and feelings.” This vision lay at the basis of Roger’s initial and quick rise to the forefront of the dance scene. His first ever released record “The House” was immediately charted by Paul van Dijk, number 1 DJ at the time according to DJ Mag. After performances in Ibiza (Club Eden), Romania (Fashion Club), Switzerland, Spain (Cirque du Soleil), England (Kensington Rooftop Gardens), Lithuania (Global Club) and playing at events like Sensation White twice, Roger won the 2007 Marco V DJ-contest. This got him a gig at the famous Dancevalley Festival. Later that year his first release on Marco V’s “In-Charge” label immediately hit the Beatport top 10 dance charts for several weeks. His skills got the attention of many of the big names in the scene. He was even asked to do a remixing work for DJ Tiësto’s mix album “Elements of Life: Remixed”. His music has been supported through the years by the likes of Fredde le Grand, Tiësto, Marco V, Paul van Dyk, Hernan Cattaneo and Sander van Doorn. This all has been the result of Roger’s love for rhythm, melody and harmony. As a 4-year old kid he was tapping rhythms on everything he could get his hands on. He also liked to play around with his mom’s old pick-up. Everything from Maria Callas to Deep Purple went through his hands. 12 years later this attraction to vinyl pulled him into the DJ life… "Music can affect people on a deeper, universal, emotional level and thus can unite people...”

Paul Hazendonk

Paul Hazendonk was born in the suburbs of Rotterdam in 1982. As a young kid he already developed an excessive interest for music, quickly discovering house music and noticing the deejays who were mixing records together. He found his passion.. He got his first club gig at age 18 and after that it all seemed like one big rollercoaster ride. In the first years of his carreer he already played at some of Holland's most infamous clubs, parties and festivals. Shortly after, his talents also got noticed abroad, taking him to most European countries to perform throughout the years. Paul started his first label, Technique, back in 2002 whilst working at the infamous record company- and store Basic Beat which was located in the heart of Rotterdam. Nowdays both Technique and Basic Beat are defunkt but Paul is more active than ever in the record business, being the owner of the Manual Music company. Manual Music releases music on various (sub)labels, takes care of artist management and bookings, digital distribution and music publishing. Having always been a DJ first and a producer second, it took some time before Paul got busy in the studio, but in the last couple of years his name as a producer is getting more and more known globally, after having done releases on respected labels such as Diynamic Music, Sleaze Records, Little Mountain Recordings, on his own labels Manual Music, Stolen Moments and Melomane + many others. Both his DJ and production style has evolved throughout the years from full on techno to a more mature sound, music with an infectious drive, blending elements of (deep)house, techhouse and techno, depending on time and place of performance.. But who cares for all those genre tags anyway, right?

Nick K

Rotterdam based and of Persian roots, Nick K. is firmly rooted in the Dutch dance scene. Given the fierce competition that's quite an achievement. Especially in such a short amount of time. Rotterdam is known for it's diversity in sound and it's audiences critical ear for delivering the goods from any DJ, regardless of name and fame. So it was quite an accomplishment to emerge that fast as another fine exponent in the local scene. In just a few years he became a resident dj in several high profiled clubs in Holland, played main stage at big festivals like Dance Valley and Extrema to eventually become the international dj he is now. It has only been a natural progression for Nick to move towards music production. Nowadays there aren't a lot of dj's out there who haven't played one of his records at one time or another. With releases ranging from the legendary Hooj Choons label to Airtight and well respected labels such as Yoshitoshi and Shinichi, Nick K has made a name for himself as a fine purveyor of dancefloor mayhem within the global dance scene. After setting up the much acclaimed Lowriders recordings label with Matthew Dekay, Nick then started the Gangsta Audio imprint With bigh rollers Armada music Holland. Nick K's trademark has always been a unique blend of quality house music regardless of genre or the latest hype for that matter. His sets have a unique hypnotic sound; at times trippy, sometimes techy, acid or deep funk but always filled with excitement.
